Brief History
Angel Wolves... The guardians of Heaven and of mortal souls. One can be born to this status, or promoted in the afterlife for heroic deeds. They have their own freewill for the most part, unless the reigning Goddess has a mission for them.
Mortal Realm
Very rarely do they wander the mortal realms. Why would one want to when they could have paradise? But when they do, it takes lots of adjustment. They're not used to pain or hunger, so they must learn to hunt for themselves and harden their bodies to adjust to new climates and rough terrain. They never age, however. Most have at least some healing ability that ranges in expertise. All can wield certain powers, though they are very peaceful and typically try to avoid using them. They prefer a natural way of doing things.
Appearances
The fur and markings of an angel vary just as much as with a normal wolf. However, they do favor lighter colors. It is extremely rare to find a black angel wolf, just as it is rare to find a white Dire wolf. Often, they seem to glow or emit a soft effluvium of light, usually stronger depending on higher status and whatnot. In the mortal plane, though, it can only barely be seen.
Their eyes can be any color, and they generally do seem to glow brightly. Sometimes, the glow is so overwhelming it appears they have no pupils at all.
Wings are usually the same color as the dominate hue of their pelt. There are three layers of feathers, excluding the frame of the wing. The down feathers are first, followed by secondary feathers which may sometimes be a different, darker color than the rest of the wing, and then come the long primary feathers. Wings can be permanently external, or they can be hidden in sheaths inside the shoulders, though this typically only occurs in angels who are not full-blooded.
Frame wise, angel wolves are graceful and strong, lean with well-toned muscles. They are adept warriors when need be, but prefer to keep peace.
Angel's Blood
The concept of angel's blood can be very complicated sometimes. If an angel breeds with a mortal wolf, such as Shooting Star -- RC's mother -- did with Black Star, the percentage of angel drops to three-fourths and so on. However, if an angel wolf were to breed with a Dire wolf (as RC did with Amaroq), the angel's blood is canceled out, and the resulting pups are actually one-fourth Dire wolf. The tricky part is, though, that the percentage of blood this Dire generation would have received is instead passed on and added to that of their children. Here's an example family tree.
Shooting Stars (100% angel) + Black Star (normal wolf)
- Rainbow Chaser (75% angel)
- Savona (75% angel)
Rainbow Chaser (75% angel) + Amaroq (100% Dire)
- Roxy (25% Dire)
- Razor Jaw (25% Dire)
- Star Chaser (25% Dire)
- Note: If she'd bred with a normal wolf, they would have been 50% angel. So, this part of the blood skips a generation instead because of the Dire genes.
Star Chaser (25% Dire) + Amarant (normal wolf)
- Searing Stars (25% angel + 50% angel = 75% angel)
If you have questions about any of these genetics before you decide to make an angel, let me know and we’ll get it figured out. Also, if you intend on creating one, I’d appreciate if you posted a profile for it here -- or at least contacted me to let me know, not because I don’t want you to have the breed, but so I can keep up with them and maybe get them involved in plots. And please realize that there are very few full blooded angels that have ever walked the mortal realms, so if you’re going to have one that’s a permanent resident of the earth, at least make it three-fourths or lower in percentage. Full-bloods are the main guardians and trainers, so Heaven needs them all! =)
